Many Parts, One Body

1 Corinthians 12:12-17

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether  Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. Now if the foot should say, "Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, "Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body," it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?

Have you ever built a house of cards? If so how well did it go? Was it able to stand on its own for a while or did it just fall to the ground?

I have never been successful with building a house of cards. But I can imagine how frustrating it can be once it all falls down. So if we really wanted to build a house that will last, you will need stronger and better materials. Then again you also can’t just build a house with only wood. There are other materials that you need to complete a house.

And the same goes for the Church around the world. We all have the same mission as part of the body of Christ, but we all have different roles. We all can’t be cards or it will not stand.

You see all of the materials that go into building a house are part of its integrity. Because if just one piece is missing it can cause it to fail inspection, cause it to fall during a storm, it could cause a leak when it rains or get really cold when it snows.

But if every piece of the house is in its place and working properly, then it can stand firm. And the same goes for the Church.

So today focus on who you are and the gifts that God gave YOU! You have an important role in his Kingdom and he wants you to be a part of it.

Reflect

  • What are your spiritual gifts? If you do not know, Google "spiritual gifts test" and hit the first link.
  • How can you use your gifts to serve at WHCC and the universal catholic church.

Pray

Father, we thank you for the blessings that you have given us. As we go throughout this week Father help us to see the gifts that you have given us. Allow us to use those gifts for your kingdom and your glory. Amen
